Oren Ziv
Composer / Guitarist
Oren Ziv (1985) is a composer, arranger and guitarist from Israel.
He was brought up in a musical family and from an early age was surrounded by both classical music, pop and rock. His first steps in the musical world were at the age of 9, singing in his grandmother’s children’s choir, and at the age of 10 when he asked for private violin lessons. At the age of 15 he decided to switch to guitar, and through highschool played in various bands and ensembles.
Playing mainly in rock bands has made Oren find interest in other forms of music and he entered the Jazz composition course at the 'Rimon school of Jazz and Contemporary music'. There he studied with teachers like Arnon Palty, Boaz Ben-Moshe and Aviya Kopelman, while also studying privately with Israeli guitarist Barak Hanoch and Dutch-Israeli pianist Bart Berman. From there he proceeded to classical studies in the Netherlands where he graduated in classical composition studies from the Utrecht Conservatory under the guidance of the composers Caroline Ansink and Jeroen D'hoe.
Oren composed music for various short films including participating in the Tel-Aviv 48 hours movie competition in 2009 and for the 2012 Israeli contestant at the Cinéfondation competition at Cannes film festival, wrote commissioned pieces and arrangements for ensembles like Ran Varon’s ‘Kol Lev’ cello quartet, the ‘Utrecht Cantorij’ choir and the Utrecht conservatory chamber orchestra. His chamber music has been performed in Israel, the Netherlands, Mexico, Japan, Australia and France.
